Hello Tom,
I am wondering what is the benefit of using a recovery catalog over a control file? What are some of the decisions one should consider before going either way?

From my own experience, I've generally been happy with just controlfile as long as you always keep controlfile auto backup turned on as a safety precaution (to ensure you can always get a controlfile back from a backupset).
