I'm trying to learn about these industry leading products.

Does ODI require GG? Or can a customer buy a different data integrator to be used with GG? Or could a customer have ODI but use a different data replicator. Finally, does one need one without the other or should they be used together?

No they are separate products.

ODI is designed as an extract, translate and load frame loading data. It is possible that you might use GG for one or more of those functions as well.

So they can be used separately, or they can be used to complement each other.

Here's a nice blog post by Rittman Mead about it.

ETL - ELT Clarifiaction

The answer to the question is 100% correct, I'd just comment on the fact that the ODI built around the E-LT (Extract, Load, and Transform) method vs the ETL (Extract, Transform, and Load) process.
