Developer or DBA?

Among the many new features, which would be the most important to you?

It all depends on whether you are a DBA, a SQL developer, a PL/SQL developer, an APEX developer, etc.

My main interest is writing SQL statements. When I have to write in 10g, what I miss most are:

- PIVOT / UNPIVOT (arrived in 11g)
- LISTAGG (arrived in 11.2)
- MATCH_RECOGNIZE (arrived in 12c)

As an application designer, I would be most interested in:
- Flashback Data Archive to replace audit tables (existed before, but with 12c no extra charge and enhanced)
- Strong authentication and encrypted communication with the database (existed before, but with 12c no extra charge)
- Role-based security for stored procedures.

For Business Intelligence: the In Memory option.

For DBAs and management, the MultiTenant architecture.

The Oracle Database is going to be more underused than ever!

I admire your optimisim Stew :-)

For me, I still believe the challenge is spreading the word about the wealth of features available in 8, 9 and 10 that are still incredibly underused.

Oracle is a major investment...it still confuses me why people dont try to get most out of that investment.
