Hi Tom,

I have installed oracle apex and imported an existing application which contains some Arabic labels, when I opened the application, labels where like question marks, I have changed the db character set to:

ALTER DATABASE CHARACTER SET AL32UTF8;

The apex is broken, when I open the login page for the application builder it shows Chinese characters.

Can you please help on this?

Thanks
Mohannad

You can't just issue an

alter database character set ...

And expect everything to work!

As stated in Support note 260192.1:

Using "Alter database character set" to go to UTF8 or AL32UTF8 is NOT supported in 10g, 11g or 12c and WILL corrupt at least (!) Data Dictionary objects and most likely also User data.

If you wish to migrate the database character set to AL32UTF8, either read the support note stated or the following documentation:

http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10729/ch11charsetmig.htm#NLSPG011

You'll need to restore your current database from backup to ensure it works correctly.
