Hey, what about Scotland?!?!
Doug Burns, May 23, 2006 - 11:55 am UTC

India -- when?
Dilip Patel, May 23, 2006 - 12:23 pm UTC
You are avoiding India for too long ;)
clones
Robert, May 23, 2006 - 1:16 pm UTC
Time to clone yourself Tom,
create table more_toms
as select 'tomkyte_' || rownum
from user_objects;
;)
Justin, May 23, 2006 - 1:20 pm UTC
Oh, we'll need more than that:
create table more_toms
as select 'tomkyte_'|| rownum RN
from dual
connect by 1=1
-- and level <= 5
Just in case anyone wants to try and run this, the level that is commented out limits the number of rows. Otherwise it's infinite...
Robert, May 23, 2006 - 4:27 pm UTC
umm thanks, we don't need THAT many Toms otherwise it'd be like Star Wars' "Attack of the Clones" - we'd ALL be out
of jobs and go hungry :(
Alberto Dell'Era, May 23, 2006 - 5:38 pm UTC

attended by a (finite?) number of Toms
I love these kinds of threads

Couple of questions from an Italian forum about your Italian seminar:
a) It is going to be in Rome, isn't it ?
b) are the dates (November 20 and 21) cast in stone right now ?
May 30, 2006 - 6:56 pm UTC
Rome - yes.
Cast in stone? Sandstone - not granite. If that metaphor is too "subtle", it is pretty firm, 99% sure.
Make that 99.999% sure - the venue has been booked:

Latin america..
A reader, May 31, 2006 - 9:43 am UTC
So, what needs to be done in order to have Tom roll over latin america ? (especifically, the caribbean).
May 31, 2006 - 10:33 am UTC
The Caribbean... Hmm - that would work during my winter wouldn't it :)
I do these seminars via Oracle University - they would have to get in touch with me (eg: they would have to want to sponsor it). No promises - I cannot do too many of them (I have my day job too :)
A reader, May 31, 2006 - 10:15 am UTC
Hmm Caribbean, dude you got one of the best beaches if Tom wants to visit Caribbean more of will be a vacation i guess :-)

Jim, May 31, 2006 - 3:26 pm UTC
Any chance of an encore in Boston? I'm heading out tomorrow for the "Cary cruise" (similar to yours back in '03)
May 31, 2006 - 3:49 pm UTC
Oh, I remember that one...
o Boat engines had to stay on (and they were a) LOUD, b) SMELLY)
o microphone was wired to the wall, wall was attached to a bar.
o microphone cord was very short, hence I was basically speaking from the bar.
o but my laptop was about 20 feet away
o and I had to type (meaning no clicker, no one else could really do it)
o the boat was moving up and down (so every time I ran back and forth to the laptop
- I felt like I was going to fall)
o microphone was not a clip on - it was a handheld, so not only attached to the
bar, but I felt like a nightclub act :)
Yes, I remember that one...
Jim, May 31, 2006 - 4:16 pm UTC
:) ... Dude, you think that's bad, had you stuck around for lunch you may've never come back to MA period!
At any rate, it's always a pleasure; hope to see you again in the Burlingon office perhaps.
June 01, 2006 - 9:15 am UTC
I was just there not too long ago - I've been back about once a year for DBA SIGS and user group events..
In fact, it was just 3 weeks shy of a year ago I was there - June 21st 2005 :)
Probably be back sometime soon, very close to home.

Luxurious - the kind of place where one would expect a speech about "Corporate Strategies" rather than mere bind variables ... ;)

MERE and BIND VARIABLES
how can you utter such words in the same breath like that. Ouch!
A bit closer to home...
Kashif, June 07, 2006 - 3:04 pm UTC
Hey Tom -
I'm not sure you've had a seminar in the local Washington DC/Northern Virginia area in recent times, any chance us localites can attend a presentation here somewhere?
Thanks.

India Visit
Dilip, October 16, 2008 - 11:13 am UTC
Tom - Just saw in homepage that you would be visiting India in December. I guess this is your first visit to India and I am sure your oracle fans would be very excited. December/January is best time to visit weather wise and make sure you try to visit many places as you can.
Regards,
Dilip.
October 17, 2008 - 9:04 pm UTC
I'll be in Mumbai for an Oracle conference and Hyderabad for a user group day.
I do plan on getting up to another spot for some sight seeing as well ;)
Wow..Tom goes to India
Rajiv, October 18, 2008 - 5:50 pm UTC
Great to hear you are going to India soon. Tom, I bet you will find it the most amazing of all the countries you have been to. Be sure to grant yourself sufficient time to relax though, it could be little overwhelming otherwise (I am sure you read Steven Feurstein's memoirs about his first India trip). You may need atleast a couple of days to get over the jet lag and to get accustomed to the weather etc. Hopefully you are taking your family along for a memorable Xmas vacation. If you want suggestions for sight-seeing please drop a line here and you will be overwhelmed at the response.
Regards, Rajiv
How can i Attend this session..
Balaji, October 22, 2008 - 10:29 am UTC
What is the procedure to attend the session(AIOUG Hyderabad)Dated 18-dec-2008 .Is there any online registration.
October 22, 2008 - 4:14 pm UTC
the organizers (the user group) are still setting it up.
There is a very good change it'll be in Bangalore and not Hyderabad - it will be their call. I can make either venue for the day and am waiting on their decision.
When I have a link with more details, I'll update the home page.
AskTom Home page update
Doug, October 22, 2008 - 6:04 pm UTC
Hey, while you're updating the AskTom home page maybe you can fix the dirty lie about you posting to your blog 5-6 times a week. :-)

Harschil Kaparwan, October 23, 2008 - 7:52 pm UTC
Hi Tom,
I wish to be there in India ( Mumabi/Bangalore) during your India visit.
Anyway , any plan to come to London in near time?
Kind Regards
October 24, 2008 - 12:54 pm UTC
UKOUG, first week of December. Not London - but pretty close by. The entire conference is worth the trek to Birmingham.
Spelling error
Reader, October 24, 2008 - 8:50 am UTC
Tom,
I just wanted to point out that you have misspelled the word Mumbai as Mumbia in you home page
Sorry for being nitpick
October 24, 2008 - 1:37 pm UTC
hey, I had it right 2 out of 3 times on that one :) thanks - I've updated it.
Mumbai travel
A reader, December 02, 2008 - 2:19 am UTC
Hi Tom,
I was just wondering if your planned visit to Mumbai is still on considering the recent events?
December 02, 2008 - 7:33 am UTC
Unfortunately, I just heard late last night that the Develop Conference and related events in Mumbai have been canceled. So - they are off for now.
Bangalore then??
Vinay, December 02, 2008 - 9:33 am UTC
Hi Tom,
I really hope you will come to Bangalore then!!
--Vinay
December 02, 2008 - 10:49 am UTC
Sorry - but 90% of what I was scheduled to do was in Mumbai, all of the arrangements were made with that as the center. I was flying in and out of Bangalore just for the one day.
I have contacted the user group and we will reschedule - with a broader schedule (more cities) for next year.
