You Asked

I have created a linked server on my SQL Server 2012 instance (OS windows 2008 ) to my oracle 10.2.0 instance. Is there any way to retrict the schemas showing up when you expand catalog under linked server in SMSS?

I don't know what SMSS is, but I presume it is a tool that is just querying ALL_USERS at the remote site - so no, there wouldn't be in that case a way to limit it.

You'd probably have to ask the makers of the SMSS tool if they can filter that information.

that is fine, it is a client tool that would have to perform any and all filtering. You would have to ask the makers of SMSS if they can do that. They are just querying the data dictionary.
