did you see the referenced link? it is quite specific as to what is supported.
After you read the doc, you could also check...

Bad CD? -look in event viewer for cdrom Bad Block errors.
Previous install of Oracle- whereby OCIxx.dll will not get overwritten. There might be a dialog box behind the installer window warning of that.

For all types of Installation, Minimal Processor Requirement is Pentium 166 or 200. Recommended processor is 266. Does it include the Celeron processor?
The hardware specification is as follows.
Intel® Celeron® D Processor 335
(256KB L2 cache, 2.80GHz, 533MHz FSB)
Intel® 865GV chipset
256MB DDR 333
Expandable to 2GB

did you see celeron listed?
no reason why "it should not work", but hey -- 8i wouldn't install on a p4 (which came out after 8i did).
but the above poster has a good idea -- I myself hit the "sorry oci.dll cannot be overwritten" just the day before last doing an upgrade.

Though it says Celeron, it is part of the pentium family. The problem may be due to OS. What do you think?

I don't have any thoughts on it -- p4 was part of the pentium family and 8i would not install on it.
I've not hit this issue, nor have I heard of it before. The oci.dll is the only thing I'm personally aware of -- but a reboot should clear that right out (as long as none of the services got started)
9i on Windows XP with Celeron and 256 MB RAM O.K.

I am running Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 on Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 on a Sony Vaio notebook computer with a 1.8 GHz Celeron Processor and 256 MB DDR SDRAM (expandable to 1024 MB), so I think you can eliminate the operating system, processor, and ram as potential sources of your problem. I installed 9i prior to upgrading the operting system to Service Pack 2, but I have heard that other people have done it the other way around with no problems. If you have anything like McAfee or Norton Internet security suite, you might try disabling them before installation, in case they are blocking you from writing to certain files.

I have Mcafee software enabled when I tried to install the Oracle 9i Enterprise. It might work for me if I disable at the time of installation..
Thanks..
