For our development environment we installed Oracle Management Server on the same machine as our Oracle database. I was able to log in thru OEM and everything was fine. I changed an .init parm that caused me to bounce the database - then I couldn't login to the OMS. I got the following messages when trying to get a status of OMS:

I have to re-boot the Unix box to get things back in sync... any ideas on how to resolve this?? Thanks in advance.

There is an open bug, #1296538, on this issue with 8.1.6. The temporary workaround is as follows (if you shut down oms before bouncing the instance, this will not happen):

Problem Description
-------------------

OEM 2.1 was running well and the repository database is 8.1.6.
Once shutdown repository database before stop OMS, now get the error messages everytime running "oemctrl status, start or stop oms".

VXA-2010: Unable to bind to Oracle Management Server <hostname>

Solution Description
--------------------

1. ps -ef|grep mx32m to find all the processes with the name as:
'jre -nojit -mx32m -DORA'

2. kill all these processes

3. startup oms
'oemctrl start oms &'

Explanation
-----------

1. Since repository database has been restarted up when oms process is still alive, oms lose connection to repository database and hangs.

2. hanging oms process still using the port defined by oem confiuration, we have to kill this process to free this port in order to restart up oms. You can find the port number in

$ORACLE_HOME/sysman/config/omsconfig.properties

3. The Oracle Management Server (OMS) is a jre process.
Its process looks like

/oem21/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/../native_threads/jre -nojit -mx32m -DORA

Hi Tom,

Thats good. But I have another problem with the oms. The oms on my server win2000 oracle 817 does not start. It says the service did not return an error but the time given to the service to start is finished. Also it reports there may be a windows internal error or servie error.

This problem always arises when I install Oracle 817 on Windows 2000 and install OMS after that. It never works. Please help me.

Thanks.

Hi Tom,
I am sorry to appear again, but I want to give you the exact error I got (concerning the OMS). It says:

Could not start OracleOMSManagementServer service on local computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

and ...

VdbSession.processError: errorMsg >ORA-12640:Authentication adapter initialization failed<
[main][2002-7-9:4:15:11:531] VdbSession.processError: database connection error

Please any suggestions.
Thanks.

Cause:
1. If connecting to an 8.1.7 database or repository, see BUG:1397927 / 1522966
2. Error connecting to an 8.1.7 database on MS Windows when
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES is set to (NTS) for O/S authentication.

If connecting to a 9i database or repository, the machine may not be connected
to the network.

Workaround:
Remove the line sqlnet.authentication_services=(NTS)
from the ORACLE_HOME\network\admin\sqlnet.ora file on the client and server
or set sqlnet.authentication_services=(NONE)

Fix:
If NTS is required, for 8.1.7 databases, apply patchset 8.1.7.2.1, available
from Metalink: ID:1019595 Patch:2002298.

For 8.1.7 on Windows 2000, review Note:137529.1 Oracle8i Enterprise Edition
Release Notes Release 3 (8.1.7).

Oh, it works

Abdal-Rahman Agha, July 09, 2002 - 8:53 am UTC

Hi Tom,

I appreciate your nice (and very quick) help to me. Thank you very very much. Just I replace NTS with NONE and it works.

From Agha again

Abdal-Rahman Agha, July 17, 2002 - 8:21 am UTC

Hi Tom,

1) As you informed, I went to Oracle Support side -MetaLink- and I downloaded the patch you specified to solve the problem of using:

sqlnet.authentication_services = (NTS)

in the sqlnet.ora file instead of using the value NONE. But, unfortunately, when I tried to restart the services on the windows 2000 the database service gave the following error:
Oracle.exe-Entry point not found.
The procedure entry point pciffc could not be located in the dynamic link library orapls8.dll.

Could not start the OracleServiceTEST service on local computer.

What will be the problem?

2) I had seen many patches for the oracle database on windows NT/2000 in the MetaLink side. For what can I know all these patches designed? I mean is there any place to know full description about the patches and buggs?

Thanks.

From Agha

Abdal-Rahman Agha, July 20, 2002 - 9:22 am UTC

Hi Tom,
I contacted Oracle Support, But I solved my problem before they reply. I discovered that I do not need to download that patchset. My problem is solved. It was concerning the way I assign the "Logon as a batch job" to the user in the preffered credentials. I discovered that it is not enough to do that from Local Security Policy from win2k, because my user is a domain user. It must be given from the Domain Security Policy or from the Domain Controller Security Policy. And finally, it works and now I am able to do my backup, export, import from the EM.

How do we utilize OEM?

Prashant Mahajan, October 22, 2004 - 9:51 pm UTC

Tom,

We have 3 database instances for an application but it is in 3 environments development / QA / Production. For security reasons all the servers are in different isolated networks which are used by many other groups. We want to use OEM from our workstations (our group does the dba tasks + application development) which are in dev network. Suppose we have OEM repository database in Dev network. We want to store information of Dev/QA/Prod in a single OEM rather than having one OEM in all 3 environments. Will OEM client allow to access all 3 databases from a single repository and also not explicitly requiring access to other networks except on the OEM respository server itself (which we can somehow explain to security group)? If yes, how?

Thanks

they sort of need connectivity to eachother if you want to use a single instance of oem to manage them.

clarification

Prashant Mahajan, October 23, 2004 - 5:30 pm UTC

Tom,

Do you mean OEM client workstation needs connectivity to OEM server and also to all database servers the OEM manages? In our case does it mean that each OEM client workstation will need connectivity to OEM server and the 3 database servers? Is there any workaround solution for this?

Thanks
Prashant

you need:

oem client -> OMS

and

OMS -> databases

OMS - Login Problem

VIKAS SANGAR, September 15, 2005 - 3:49 am UTC

Dear Mr. Kyte,

I have just installed Oracle Management Server in one of my existing Database(Oracle 9ir2) . I have created a repository user in my database while installing OMS. Although everything, according to the custom went good during the installation process (using EMCA at Dos prompt, Win 2003 server)and I was thrown the message "Processing complete" at the end of installation without any errors.

Now, when I try login to OMS using the default UserID and Password (SYSMAN/oem_temp)and even using Database user sys as sysdba Account at Enterprise Manager Console, I am unable to login to the OMS. I am getting the following messages-

INCORRECT LOGIN CREDENTIALS

I also tried login using OS authentication, but even that failed.

When ever i TRY to ping OMS "c:\>oemctl ping oms"
I am geting the message: "Oracle Management Server is running."
and when i use either of the oemctl start/stop/status oms
commands, I am asked to provide the super administrator Login Credentials and on supplying the same I get the following errors:

VXA-1003 : Administrators Login credentials are invalid.
VXA-2012 : Failed to login.

-->Can you pls Help and suggest me in overcoming this issue and explain in detail (or provide a related Link)as if why and what is happening, and how can this be controlled?

Your valuable advice and suggestions in this regards wil be a great help for me.

Take care, regards.
VIKAS.
