Hi Tom,

My company is in the process of implementing Oracle HCM. I had a good hands on experience using Oracle (8i and 9i SQL & PL/SQL). Appeared in 8i and 9i SQL exams and passed also.

What is your advise if I want to capitalize on this strength of mine along with my overall experience of being with the same company for 13 years (working in Marketing and research space for IT Staffing company).

Your advise will give new direction to my career.

Please let me know.

Thank you in advance.

Regards
Hemal Buch - Canada.

My advice to anyone is the same whether they are deploying Oracle tech or any other tech.

Be flexible and be ready to learn new things. Anyone that has a mindset of "I know X and Y, so I'll just focus on those two things forever" is doomed to have failure at some point in their career. The IT world changes so often and so fast - it is those people that continue to adapt and evolve that are most successful.

So if you know SQL and PLSQL - that's great. If you're deploying Oracle HCM - then become adept at that, and whilst you're doing that, so what other opportunities for learning are out there as well. For example, maybe you need to some analytics on the HCM data - so look at R and Python as new skills to pick up.

Always be searching on how to broaden your skills. Your career will thank you for it :-)
