Hi Tom in my organization we have Oracle Standard Edition 2.

I am trying to create a manual DataGuard, but when duplicating the production database the resulting clone has a different dbid and therefore I cannot apply the archived redo. Could you tell me the correct command to duplicate the database and that the clone has the same dbid?
And any other suggestion that you can advise me.

Thanks a ton.

Rather than a duplicate, you need to truly "clone" the database, ie, copy the datafiles/controlfiles/spfile/etc

Thus you can

- shutdown the source db
- copy the files to a new location
- start the copied database in mount mount
- issue manual recovery.

If you are seriously heading down the DataGuard path for SE, it might be best to look at 3rd party soluitions (eg DB Visit).

Otherwise, note that you can migrate to autonomous from SE2 for basically a like-for-like license cost.

Why not use RMAN?

Wouldn't it be so much easier and less risky to use RMAN?

"duplicate database for standby" might not work or might be a violation of license usage for a Standard Edition database.

(I have not checked this, but it worries me :-))

Follow up to use of RMAN Duplicate with SE2

I haven't found any evidence that RMAN Duplicate Database is a restricted feature. RMAN table level and block level restore, as well as advanced compression are clearly off limits. But, the licensing information available online is not entirely clear in many respects.
Is there any chance that you might recruit a licensing expert to join your support team here?
I have a hunch that I'm not alone in navigating the shark-infested waters of SE2 vs EE, and the consequences of crossing a line.

Thats what support.oracle.com is for. They are always the best place for license issues because they have access to your license details etc
