Ryan Dorosh, January 23, 2002 - 9:55 am UTC
I used a year 2000 installer and I can get 7.3.4 to run on Win 2K with no install problems.

Fine, now -- call support and tell them you are having some issue -- Oh, its totally unsupported...
734 might run in your case, might not run in someone elses case -- in any case -- it is 100% not supported and 10000% not recommended. You need to use the proper operating system for the software.
Thanks for your help!!

sir:
Thanks for your help!!
Have a nice day!!
But I Have two new questions, please help me to find the answer:
1.Can we install oracle 7.3.4 on nt platform first and upgrade to win2000 later?Does it work well in this case?
2.How can I install OEBU UTILITY of oracle 7.3.4 on the machine running oracle 7.3.4 server without installing OEBU before?
Thanks for your help!!
best regards;

Hello? Is anyone at home?
Mark A. Williams, January 24, 2002 - 11:17 am UTC
Oracle 7.3.4 is not supported on Win2000, so installing it on NT and then migrating NT to 2000 would still result in an unsupported configuration. If you (and appararently Mr. Dorosh) think there is no problem with running unsupported configurations, I wish you luck and hope you never have a problem.

Try 9i -- 9i is the only supported and supportable version of Oracle on this very brand new, very different operating system.
installing 9i

Hi tom,
I have ora 8.1.7.4.1 install on win2k,
then I downloaded the trial version of ora 9.0.2
(AS not DB) from OTN
setp 1: I installed 9ias on same win2k machine.
setp 2: some how it was unable to install it properly
so installation aborted.
setp 3: I tried to install again (in new home) and
it installed correctly.
step 4: to make clean installation I uninstall the 9ias
step 5: Tried to clean windows registary which had
3 oracle homes ( removed registry entry for 9ias)
set oracle home_counter
step 6: shutdwon and stratup the machine.
step 7: triying to install the 9iAS in new oracle home
Now in the installer it loads products.jar
but when I select the product and press next
it says all the installation must be done by the
same user (win2k user) and does not allowme to
install ora 9ias. I have used same (win2k myself)
user both times.
do you know how can I install it again ??
version - 8.1.7.4.10?

Dear Tom,
I installed 8i Release 3 (8.1.7.0.0) in my Windows 2000 Server. After this I applied the patchset 8.1.7.4.1. Now when I gave "Select Version From V$Instance" in sql*plus, it gave me the result "8.1.7.4.1". After this I applied the 8.1.7.4.10 patch. The process went through smooth and didn't give me any problems. However, when I restarted the database and queried V$Instance, it still says "8.1.7.4.1". Is this the expected behaviour? If so, how else can I check (just for curiosity) which is the patch that is installed in my database.
Thank you.

Oracle installer didn't invoke after initiating setup.exe for the Oracle client.
Development system where we have this configured is the OS being W2K server & in production the OS is W2K Advanced server. Please advise the version of oracle client that will work with W2K Advanced server & oracle back-end we have setup.

metalink.oracle.com is the support site, best for installation/configuration issues and has a certification matrix of what is supported with which versions.
