Hi Tom,

I want to avail myself of F-B-indexes, and am trying to issue DDL simialr to the following:

CREATE INDEX ix_ssn_part4_bulk08
ON x_tbindpvoiecvbulk08 (SUBSTR(ssn,6,4))
TABLEPSACE testbulkindex
PCTFREE 5
STORAGE (INITIAL 10M NEXT 10M PCTINCREASE 0 )
UNRECOVERABLE;

Problem is, I get an ORA-00439 "feature not enabled" message. I've tried to work around this by adjusting the init.ora parameters COMPATIBLE (up to 8.1.6) and also QUERY_REWRITE_ENABLED to TRUE. But I still receive the ORA-00439. I'm running 8.1.6 on AIX. Maddeningly, my little Personal Oracle8i DB running on an NT workstation has no problem with this DDL.

Do you know what's wrong?
Thanks,
Rob

A matrix of what features/options are available with Enterprise, Standard and Personal Oracle can be found at:

Function Based Indexes are part of Enterprise Edition. Most of Enterprise is also available in Personal for development purposes. Function based indexes are not available on Oracle Standard Edition.

9i Personal Edition on Win98

Richard Armstrong-Finnerty, October 21, 2002 - 8:45 am UTC

Hi,

The response was great for 8.0, but what about 9i?

I have 9i Personal Edition at home, on Win98, and recently bought a copy of Beginning Oracle Programming. I have attempted installation of the new Sample Schemas (HR, OE etc.), as per Appendix D, but am getting ORA-00439 (Partioning not allowed) when installing the Sales History schema.

Is partitioning possible with this edition? If so, how's it done?

Regards,

Richard

Partitioning is an option that is separately licensed.

is the link for 9i like the 8i link above.

points into the sample schemas documentation -- the SH schema is not available for use with PE or SE as per that document. The remainder should install just fine.

You should have no issues installing all of the samples beyond that.

how about "is this a job we are running...."

query dba_jobs, see what jobs you have scheduled.
query dba_scheduler_jobs as well, you might have used that.
