I'm going to publish this just as a gentle reminder - because this is the 3rd one this morning. And it means we've just lost the ability to have three really useful questions (that never got asked) to see the light of day.

The page you used to submit this question has in bold, italic, really big, right at the top:

READ THIS, REALLY, it'll save us all time and you have all of the time you need to read it!(the fact you are on this page means you will get to ask a question, take your time)....

This is not Oracle support. Repeat: THIS IS NOT Oracle support. Questions that are obviously support questions, for example:

    * I'm getting an ora-600, ora-3113, ora-7445 are *support* questions
    * I'm not able to install "X"
    * I'm trying to configure "Y"

Questions posted here should be "how to" in nature, that is what I do best. Ask a support question and you will get the answer "that is a support question, please use support"

But who read the warnings and header when he wants to post a question?

How many times I see: "don't post Metalink note" and then a Metalink note is posted?
How many times I see: "before posting read the following" and the post breaks all the rules?
How many times I see: "always post your Oracle version" but seldomly see an Oracle version?
How many times I see Tom answer: "no create, no insert, no look"? :)

About 50 times per day (but I have limited time)

Kind regards and WOW! for your patience
Michel

ORA-7445 DURING INSERT STATEMENT

kuldeep, June 29, 2007 - 10:58 am UTC

Tom,

I was getting ORA-03113 and ORA-07445 error when a Pro*C code was doing a simple insert with bind variables inside a pl/sql block. I raised a SR with oracle support and got the below response that I must remove X'20' chars from my char values which I am using in TO_DATE function.

My question is what is this X'20' char?

Thanks and regards,
Tom Kyte

x'20' is decimal 32, which is the ascii code for a space (blank)

however, you need not remove blanks from strings, you do however need to use well formed pro*c code.

but I cannot comment on your code, as you have not provided any to look at...

vinod, July 04, 2007 - 1:35 am UTC

Hi Kuldeep,

If you would like to have a solution without changing the code ,upgrade the database to the latest version with CPU patch(9.2.0.x -9.2.0.8 & 10.2.0.x - 10.2.0.3) .

Thanks & Regards,
Vinod

you would have to get access to support - ora-7445 simply means "it died" - there is no one single cause.

don't come here for an ora-7445 - which is a core dump, that would be something that would lead you to....
