Is it not possible to use a pluggable or container database as the AWR warehouse database? The documentation doesn't state anything about it but when i go to configure the awr warehouse, there is no option to select those types of databases.

From MOS Note 1907335.1

"The following database versions are supported for the AWR repository:

11.2.0.4 or later (Linux x86-64) and 11.2.0.4.4 (Exadata) with required Patch 18547891 or later
11.2.0.4 (AIX) PSU 4 (11.2.0.4.4) must be applied as a minimum requirement for AIX
12.1.0.2, 12.2, 18c, 19c or later (configured as a non PDB database)
Pluggable databases (PDBs) 12.2, 18c, 19c or later when used with Enterprise Manager 13.4 BP2 and above"

Updated guidelines for 2020

The MOS note was updated recently to include PDB's when you are on the newer versions of EM13.4
The following database versions are supported for the AWR repository:

11.2.0.4 or later (Linux x86-64) and 11.2.0.4.4 (Exadata) with required Patch 18547891 or later
11.2.0.4 (AIX) PSU 4 (11.2.0.4.4) must be applied as a minimum requirement for AIX
