What is the advantage of Goldengate over Stream?

Oracle Goldengate has high license cost compared to Streams. So, why an organization should use Goldengate for their data replication need and not Streams? Does Goldengate has advantage, which is worth the high license cost?

and Connor said...

There is one very important advantage.... Streams is end of life.

So it is going to be desupported. I will miss Streams - I thought it was a pretty cool technology, but yeah, its Goldengate for the future.

I don't have control over the licensing decisions so we are where we are

So no advantage of gg on streams.

- supports more datatypes
- support heterogeneous sources/targets
- includes all of streams functions

but seriously....all that matters for nothing.

If you're going to use desupported stuff, you may as well just use 'vi' on the datafiles

Hello team,

I need to setup goldengate from a 12.1 non-cdb to a 12.2 pdb. Is this possible? I'm having trouble tracking down the documentation. Thank you.

I don't think there's a lot to it. Your extract would be as per normal (because its a non-pdb), for the apply you simply nominate the service which maps to the pluggable, eg

USERID GGADMIN

becomes

USERID GGADMIN@MY_SERVICE
