"running a production database on Standard edition"

Absolutely no problem. Standard edition is just as rock solid as the Enterprise in terms of core features (reliability etc). It is only if you need the extended features of Enterprise Edition that you would make the additional investment. Many, many customers run critical production systems on Standard edition.

"running a production database on no-archivelog mode"

Is an absolute no. Don't do it. Ever.

You will lose a bunch of data someday in the near future. I sure hope Hari is not a DBA asking a question like that.

Let's not be critical.

He might be a *new* DBA, so its fine to ask that question.
