Hi

I'm a Junior Oracle DBA in the new company that I joined in.

Our Lead Oracle DBA resigned and my company is screening for new applicants.

The boss of our department might ask me to interview the potential Oracle Lead DBA candidate and ask me my opinion.

A few hours ago, we were sifting through several resumes. I observed that the candidates have more than 10 years of working experience and all of them are OCP. I even noticed one candidate who is an OCM.

My questions are:

- what questions to ask a Lead DBA Oracle Interviewee?
- what qualities and attributes should I look for?
- Should I also judge them on the neatness of their resumes? I observed that there are some resumes that are sloppy.
- How to decide which one to choose amongst these potential Lead Oracle DBA candidates

Thank you

Best Regards,
Ricky

Here's a link to an AskTOM question on a similar topic from (believe it or not) 2001 !

And I don't think it has really changed.

Especially for *lead* DBA's....Yes, they need technical skills but the things you *really* want, ie, the things that will make them a true asset to your company are:

a) their ability to communicate at all levels (deep technical level, but also at a conversational level to explain things to non-technical business people)

b) their ability/desire to empower people to get things done.

I've worked with many DBAs over the years who treated the database as their personal kingdom, and used the position as an egocentric power trip over the developers and tester (and even users). Nothing is worse than dealing with these kinds of people.

Others welcome to share their thoughts.
