Hello Tom,

I'm new in database and just want to understand the memory and proc requirement for a database server.
Here if I say that approx. 500-600 concurrent user are going to connect 12C database through application and size of database is approx. 2-3GB each with multiple schemas.

To do a server capacity planning how much memory required for system and how much we need to allocate to database (SGA and PGA) to get the optimal performance.

What are the parameters we need to check before allocating memory to database.

Please suggest.

Thank you.

If *all* you know is the number of users, and a rough storage guide, then I'd probably recommend a Cloud option (you can still have it on-site) because there are so many variables there that some elasticity in your configuration would be a smart move.

If that is not an option, then you need to do your best to mimic that flexibility with your server choice, ie, get a machine with a larger number of cores than you expect, and sit something like Oracle VM on top of it, so you can start small (and only pay small license fee) and then expand over time as you need.

The hardware cost of a project nowadays is basically "zero" when you compared to the overall cost of a project in terms of either software build or software procurement - for example you can get dozens of cores and hundreds of gigabytes of RAM for a pittance nowadays (relative to the overall spend).

I can't really comment much further with the amount of detail given.
