Hi Tom,

I started hot backup rman at 9am and it got completed at 2pm,In the middle there was update query running more than 5 hrs which is started @10am and completed by @5pm (at end committed)

so if I want to clone this database with this full backup,do I need to restore all archives untill 5pm or only untill 2pm enough? If only untill 2pm archives enough to recover then what about uncommited data at that time?

Please explain in detail

You didnt say

a) what you time you want to clone to,
b) whether you want the big update to be included or excluded

If you want to recover to point in time "X", you will need a full backup from before that time plus all archives up to the that point in time.

If at "X", there were uncommitted transactions, they will be rolled back as part of the recovery operation that occurs as part of a cloning task.
