What are the factors (list) that suggest we should increase the size of the SGA allocated for a database.

Pick a reasonable starting point based on your server's *available* memory. For example, if there is no other databases on the box, a reasonable estimate would be 50% (depending on how many dedicated sessions you intend to have on there - because they will each consume memory).

Then use the advisor views to monitor and adjust as required:

V$DB_CACHE_ADVICE
V$SHARED_POOL_ADVICE
