Hi,

I have Sunday full backup and then Monday Tuesday Wednesday incremental level 1 back-up and last 7 days archive now I want to restore all this to my Restoration server to check backup consistency So
1.which backup pieces I need to move on Restoration server how to restore ?
2. How to restore it ?

Before this I have rman full backup with archive log all. So I have move this on Restoration server and restore control file then catalog backup piece then set new name for datafile 1...and then restore.

But how to move and do this if full backup and incremental level 1 backup and archive logs.

Pls advise the same.

Thanks

If you want to recovery to a point in time *past* that of the full backup and the last archive log backed up, then you'd need

- the full
- the incrementals
- the archives

If you have *all* the archivelogs from the full backup through to the point in time to which you wish to restore to, then you could omit the incrementals.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for reply,

1. Then i have to move full backup bkp pieces incremental backup pieces and all till now archive log to the restoration server ?

2. And how to register the incremental backup and archive log files in backup like catalog start with "...."; ?

3. We need to set the archive log to apply archive or we have to copy the archive to the existing restoration server arch location ?

Thanks

If you have a shared file system (eg NFS) then ideally you can reference backup pieces etc without having to move them. Otherwise, yes, they'll need to be made available to the restoration server in some way.

If the catalog is global, then you might need need to register the pieces again.

Here's a an example of a restoration to a new server under that assumption
