I understand that Recover Catalog Manager does has the metadata of the registered database, if the registered database has been recovered by doing restlogs(once we reset the logs we cannot use the old backups using the control file of the database as due to incarnation the control files scn will be reset ) can we still be able to use the old backups by using recover catalog please suggest.

You *can* still use the older backups, but that would be to take the database back to a previous incarnation. New backups would be associated with the new incarnation

From the doc:

http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/BRADV/rcmcatdb.htm

"If you open the database with the RESETLOGS option, then a new database incarnation record is automatically created in the recovery catalog. The database also implicitly and automatically issues a RESET DATABASE command, which specifies that this new incarnation of the database is the current incarnation. All subsequent backups and log archiving done by the target database is associated with the new database incarnation."

Notice the term: *subsequent*

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, it really helps but have one more question, in this case is it mandate to take full database backup again after the incarnation or just use the setup as it is ?

It *is* possible to recover through a resetlogs operations, but it is slightly more involved sequennce of steps. So I would take another backup.
