1) search for dbms_obfuscation_toolkit on my site.

2) no.

3) Go to Resources and use the APEX interactive report search bar and search for "speling.tar"

followup to comment

not sure what you mean by that. DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT is a supplied pacakge with Oracle. It implements DES and 3DES encryption in the database.

No only can make use of your encrypted data unless they have your KEY. Protect your KEY and your data is protected. Having access to a real encryption algorithm does not make it any easier to crack the encrypted data.

followup to comment 3 below

you have the source code, you can make it do ANYTHING you want it to do.

Tom,
1.) How do I start a new question on Ask Tom? The HELP ? button at top did not help me to figure out how to ask a new question. I see no links for that? I only see reviews.

2.) I want to spell check text or varchar2() columns? Is there a spell check function available?

Thanks,
jeff

1) on the home page, upper right hand corner, it says:

Sorry I have a
large backlog
right now, please
ask a question later

To ask a question
click on the "Submit
a New Question" button
or Ask A Question. <<== thats a link

when you see the "sorry", i'm not taking any.

2) download the spelling.tar from above, rip it apart and get just the routine to do the spell check without the HTML stuff. All of the routines are in there, just use the one you want.

Hi Tom

We have few columns (varchar2 (2000))in various tables and they are comments and descriptions, and I am looking for some tool to do spell chek but the link above shows page not found.

Is there any Oracle tool or procedure/function or third party tool which can be used with Oracle9i, to check spelling before inserting into database.

Thanks and regards

Spell Checker

I would like to run spell check on a few columns in our Oracle database table. I noticed you had a solution listed at:
http://asktom.oracle.com/~tkyte/speling.tar
I am not able to reach this page at this time.

Is the page still available or can you repost your solution?

Thanks in advance,
Kim

Hi Tom,

The URL provided for spell check is not working. Is this changed?

Go to Resources tab, and scroll down to files. It will be in that list somewhere.

Hope this helps.

I tried finding dpeling.tar in the resources tab but could not find it. Can you please help me with that

Click on Resources
Scroll down to Files

The list will show the *first* 15 files, but there is lots more. Keep hitting the arrow at the bottom of the list to scroll through them.

(Yes, we need to improve this...but that how it is currently)

spell check using Oracle text

Shubhanshu Chandra, May 05, 2016 - 12:04 pm UTC

Thanks again for the reply but I tried searching in all the 222 rows for the speling.tar or anything relative in the description column but maximum of them are the OUG presentation zip files for different regions and nothing related to spell check is mentioned.

If you can help me with the description then it will be really helpful.

Appreciate your help in the context.

I went to Resources, Sorted Presentations by Name Descending and found this link.

Hope that is what you were looking for.

Direct Link didn't work, but you can search

A reader, August 13, 2019 - 2:05 pm UTC

I tried the direct link posted by; however, you can now go to Resources and use the APEX interactive report search bar. Just make note, its speling.tar ( not spelling )
