Hi Tom,

In your book Effective Oracle By Design you describe how to use ROWNUM to materialize inline views. Does ROWNUM in this case work the same way as /*+ materialize*/ hint? If no, what is the difference between them?

It works in a similar fashion, the net result is generally "the same"

so that begs the question - why not use the materialize hint? well, it is not documented... I try to avoid it for that reason.
