That was a quick response. I would read this. But I feel this document may not give me much hands on experience.
Can you suggest me something for improving the hands on skill on PL/SQL and Oracle administration.

There is no shortcut way to becoming proficient at Oracle. Look for a beginner's book on Oracle if you only want the tip of the iceberg. See Amazon for reader reviews.

Well, rumor has it that Larry is going to announce a new product at OpenWorld - Oracle Internal. It's basically a chip (Sparc of course, running jvm 1.3.1) that is inserted into your cranium. It allows instant access to all things Oracle (via a wireless interface). Fortunately Oracle have moved away from Power Unit pricing. Otherwise, you would have to translate your brain power into the appropriate MHz leading to disproportinate licensing costs. Remember to shave your head before you go.
You are right of course. Just trying to take a break from studying for the 9i OCP upgrade exam that is going to be offered at OpenWorld...

Do a favor to yourself, and acquire Tom´s Book. It contains a lot of useful information. I readed some Oracle books (from Oracle Press and anothers), but like Tom´s book I had not found equal.

I'll give an obvious, though not mentioned suggestion: the Oracle University courses will give theory and practice (trough labs).
I know they're expensive -- around US$1000 each -- but if you think of cost/benefit, they're the best you can get. It seems you should pay attention to the Development track. You can just begin by taking two courses:
- Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL
- Introduction to Oracle9i: PL/SQL
If you are more ambitious, you can consider getting certified, which is a BIG market differential. A can affirm that myself.

Tom,
Do you have any idea of why the Oracle online documentation is giving the following error every time I try to access to any web page?
The error message is the following

I have tried to acces the online documentation for 8i or 9i, and as soon as I tried to go from the index into the actual documentation I got the error.
This is one of the addresses I have tried:

I use otn.oracle.com -- i haven't had any problems with that tahiti link, but frankly, i've never used tahiti -- otn has a better set of docs, just as searchable (wasn't always true -- 3, 4 years ago maybe)

Another comment about this Tom.
A friend of mine just tried from his home machine using a direct DSL connection and he is getting the same error messages when he tries to accesses to the online documentation.

I think there may be a problem with logging into OTN, if i go to any OTN link without being logged in I get that.
If i already logged into otn, it works out.
It used to take me to the login screen. Im sure the OTN people know about it

I logout and login again onto OTN and now works.
It looks like there might be a problem with the login to OTN, because it used to take me to the login screen before.

I am big fan of you.
I am looking for a Oracle education in U.S.
Two years ago I went to oracle university to take oracle 9i dba courses.(3 months)
Recently I found Oracle diploma program in Virginia International University.(1 year).But I am not sure if it is good or not.
Which institution can u reccomend me for oracle education?
It might be 11gDBA,AppsDBA,RAC,appserver,erp,..

Honestly - I would not look to a University or College for an education in Oracle.
I'd look for an entry level job with a good mentor available.

I work as a oracle dba,and working is the best way to learn.
I also want to improve my skills at RAC,AppServer,AppsDBA,Datamining,Datawarehouse,ERP,...
Should I take courses to learn them? cos these subjects are a little bit complicated.

Since you are asking for "life advice", I recommend you never ever use IM speak (text messaging shorthand) in real life communication.
Reason:
It might not bother some people.
To other people however, it makes you look like you are twelve years old and they will lose respect for you immediately.
So, since the people that would not be bothered by it would not be bothered by proper sentences, and since the other group of people are likely to be your management - or prospective employers - you should err on the side of caution and use proper words.
You can take the courses - sure. But, that is a large list - any one of those topics would be a career path in itself.

No problem for me - it is just that you were asking for "life advice" that might be among the most important bits of it you could get from me.
Deadly serious here.
I've received cover letters with this 'IM speak' in it. We laugh at them, make fun of them, as we discard them.
Same with resumes, or email contacts.
With your friends, maybe it doesn't matter. And as you sit there with your friends, you cannot comprehend it mattering to anyone. But, in the rooms where your material is read after you submit it - it really matters. It doesn't matter how smart you are, how good of a programmer/DBA you are, how personable you are - if you put that into professional communication - you are missing opportunities you never knew you had.
It is like dressing nicely for the initial interview. It matters.
